Sumatra Rhinoceros Skull No Horns BC-051 The Sumatra Rhino is the smallest of the world's five species of rhinoceros. They live in the dense forests of Southeast Asia and Indonesia, where there are less than 300 of the three subspecies in total remaining in the wild. They stand about 5 feet tall at the shoulder, weigh 1400 to 1500 pounds and possess two small stumpy horns that consist of compacted keratinized skin and hair cells. Sumatra Rhinos are usually solitary except for females with their young. Occasionally two or three will form a loose association. Preferring dense jungle, they can sometimes be found wallowing in mud near river clearings in order to keep cool and as a form of external parasite control. Although pictured, horns are not included with this skull. Horns may be purchased separately (KO-251) or with the skull (BC-051H). Sumatra Rhinoceros Skull Larger Image.
