Biological anthropology (also referred to as Physical Anthropology) is a sub-field of anthropology that focuses on humans as biological organisms, studying their evolution, genetics, the fields of primatology and paleoanthropology, and patterns of human skeletal variation. The encompassing field of anthropology is the holistic study of the human species involving cultural variation, social organization, human biology, and evolution.
