Sharks & Rays

With over 500 species, and fossils dating back over 400 million years, sharks are a diverse group of predatory fish belonging to the class Chondrichthyes, which also includes rays and skates. They are known for their unique adaptations, including multiple rows of sharp teeth, keen senses (especially smell and electroreception), and a streamlined body suited for hunting. Sharks play crucial roles as apex predators in marine ecosystems, helping to regulate the populations of other species and maintain ecological balance. Despite their often fearsome reputation, most sharks are not a threat to humans and are vital for the health of the oceans. In turn their numbers are threatened by human behavior such as hunting, over-fishing, habitat damage and pollution. Bone Clones offers high-quality, finely-detailed casts of several species of extant and extinct sharks and rays that would be of great use in biology, zoology, and paleontology programs.

Megalodon Shark Jaw

BC-295

The Megalodon shark inhabited the warm coastal waters of the world approximately 17 million years ago to about 2 million years ago. Their somewhat smaller predecessors roamed the seas as early as the late Eocene, about 35 mya. The specimens from which these teeth came are estimated to have lived about 10 mya.

Whorl Tooth Shark Teeth (Helicoprion)

KO-001

Until recently, very little was known about the unusual specimen called the whorl tooth shark except that the front teeth grew in a spiral containing up to 180 teeth. This cast is made from the specimen of the type genus, Helicoprion bessonovi, and was found in the Arta Beds in the Ural Region of Russia in 1899.

New Products

Bone Clones is continually adding to our collection of reproductions, covering a wide range of disciplines and areas of study. This month, we’re excited to announce the release of remarkable, highly-detailed casts of two unique South American animals: a Tufted Capuchin Skull and a Tamandua Skull. We've also expanded our line of accessories with a new T-shirt design. See below.

Tufted Capuchin Skull

BC-364

Tufted capuchins, also known as robust capuchins, have large zygomatic arches, a thicker and shorter mandible than other capuchins, and are native to South America, as well as the Caribbean islands of Trinidad and Margarita.

Southern Tamandua Skull

BC-367

The southern tamandua, the arboreal relative of the anteater, is a medium-sized xenarthran mammal (ancient Greek for unusual joint—in reference to extra vertebral joints unique from other mammals) native to South America.

Introducing our new Bone Clones® T-shirt featuring artwork by José Guadalupe Posada. Available in black or ivory color, in sizes small, medium, large and extra large.
