New Pathology and Trauma Products

Bone Clones is continually adding to our collection of reproductions, including specimens that display a variety of pathology and trauma. Among our newest additions are specimens displaying syphilis, spina bifida, a malunion fracture, and polio.

Pathology refers to the manifestation of disease in the body and can be presented as structural or functional changes in soft tissue and bone. Trauma refers to a wound or sustained injury on the body. Our collection presents examples of different kinds of pathology or trauma that can be observed on bone, showcasing how the skeleton reacts to these types of conditions.

Syphilis Skull

BC-404

Syphilis is a bacterial infectious disease which has a venereal mode of transmission. As seen here, tertiary syphilis results in numerous lesions on the skull vault. Presentation of caries sicca on the parietal bones and occipital can be seen when the person is severely affected and in this case, there is advanced sclerotic healing. Syphilitic lesions often affect the outer table of the skull, leaving the inner table spared.
