Human Female Cranium with Sling Shot Wound
BCH-817 $340.00
This cast is from a specimen from the Hrdlicka Paleopathology Collection housed at the San Diego Museum of Man. This is a female cranium exhibiting a perimortem (at time of death) circular depressed fracture of the frontal bone. This fracture is 1.5cm in diameter with a radiating fracture line extending to the left orbit and across the left zygomatic process of the maxilla. This injury is thought to have been caused by a stone hurled by a sling. An additional 3cm depressed fracture exists in the right parietal just to the right of the sagittal suture. This cranium is an excellent example of trauma in the archaeological context and would be a valuable addition to anthropology programs focused on paleopathology and archaeology.
