Human Left Scapula with Healed Fracture

An example of skeletal trauma, this scapula has sustained a complete fracture extending across the blade. The fracture is well-healed, but some lateral displacement and override have occurred. The joint surface (where the scapula articulates with the head of the humerus) has expanded due to lipping (new bone formation along joint margins) and eburnation (polishing). These degenerative changes occurred in response to the fracture trauma.
