Human Left Temporal Bone, Auditory Exostosis
KOH-445 $205.00

Auditory exostosis (also sometimes called "surfer's ear") is a benign lesion made up of a mass of dense bone within the ear canal (bony bumps are found within). While the cause is an unresolved issue, many believe it is a response to cold water immersion, since the lesion is common among people who exploit marine or freshwater resources. We are grateful to the San Diego Museum of Man for the opportunity to cast this specimen from the Hrdlicka Paleopathology Collection. A portion of the sales goes to further their work.
