Human Right Patella with Osteoarthritis
KO-273 $34.00

An example of diseased bone, this patella reveals the effects of osteoarthritis, the most common form of joint disease today. It is a degenerative disease, often associated with age. It results from the deterioration of cartilage between joints that produces bone-on-bone contact. Bone rubbing against bone results in eburnation (polishing), grooving (grinding into the bone), and/or lipping (new bone formation along the joint margins). This patella displays eburnation on much of the medial articular surface, and the adjacent margin shows lipping, or osteophyte development. From the Stanford-Meyer Osteopathology Collection and licensed to Bone Clones® by the San Diego Museum of Man. A portion of the sales goes to further their work.
