Fossil Shark Skulls

Elasmobranchii (sharks and rays) is a subclass of cartilaginous fish and appear in the fossil record about 400 million years ago. What distinguishes them from other cartilaginous fish are five to seven pairs of gills, a liver full of oil to maintain buoyancy, an upper jaw not attached to the skull and a continuous supply of new teeth, since many are lost during growth and feeding. Below one will find replicas of fossil shark jaws and teeth.
