The Class Mammalia is the most successful class of animals on the plant, inhabiting every major habit from land, tree, air, fresh and salt water. All mammals share at least three physical characteristics; hair, three ear bones (incus, malleus, and stapes) and the ability to produce milk. They are one of the most diverse classes of animals in the world with an enormous range in size, dietary preference, and behavior. According to most mammologists and systematists, there are approximately 5,000 species of mammals in the world, though this number can change with new molecular and fossil evidence.
