This wing comes from the largest of the bat family. There are over 154 species of fruit bats existing worldwide - many of which are endangered. This fruit bat is also known as a flying fox. Bats are the only mammals to have evolved true flight. Arboreal creatures, these bats sleep in colonies and emerge at dawn and dusk to feed solely on fruit. Because of this, they cannot be imported into the United States for fear they may damage fruit crops.
