Our human cervical vertebrae and occipital assembly includes C1 through C7 with the occipital bone. This assembly clearly illustrates that, in addition to housing the spinal chord, one of the key functions of the cervical spine (neck) is to support the skull. Our precise assembly allows educators and practitioners to point out the details of the architecture of each cervical vertebra, including the relationships between the atlas and occipital bone (allowing nodding up and down movement), and the atlas and axis (allowing side to side and other movements).
