Parson's chameleons are the largest of the Old World chameleons, growing to more than two feet. The large skulls of the male have strong bony ridges and two warty "horns," which they use to joust each other for dominance. Endemic to the island of Madagascar, they are found primarily in its cooler, mountainous East Central forests. They have laterally compressed bodies that they can orient to help them regulate heat by exposing more or less surface area towards the sun. They can also maximize or minimize their profile when showing aggression or fear. Their toes provide them a very strong, sure-footed, claw-like grip for climbing. Their eyes independently can swivel 180 degrees, which allows them to look in multiple directions at the same time. The eyes when used together provide them acute binocular vision for hunting prey. Their amazing tongues can rapidly shoot out over twice their body length. The tongue's bulbous tip secretes a sticky substance and has a dish shape that acts like a suction cup, both adaptations providing a firm hold on their prey. 1-part skull (jaw glued to cranium).
