The magnificent scarlet macaw has striking red, blue and yellow coloration and reaches lengths of almost three feet, including its long tail feathers. In the wild it makes its home from Southern Mexico through Central America to the Amazon Basin. Scarlet macaws mate for life and reach ages of 40 years in the wild. With their tough beak, they can access the flesh of the hardest nuts and unripe fruit. Able to maintain their balance on one foot, they typically use their left foot for grasping. 2-part skull (separate cranium & jaw).
