The arrangement of the bones in the pectoral fins of the dolphin is similar to that in the arms of humans or forelimbs of other land mammals. However, the bones that are comparable to the humerus, ulna and radius of the human are foreshortened in the dolphin. The largest of the beaked dolphins, the bottlenose dolphin is 8 to 12 feet long and found mostly in coastal and inshore areas of tropical and temperate waters.
