Human Cranium Blunt Force Trauma, Eye Orbit
BCM-805 $290.00

This cranium provides an example of blunt force trauma resulting in facial fractures. The major impact occurred on the left supraorbital margin. The fractures extend into the left orbit, across the forehead, through the bridge of the nose, and into the right orbit. In other words, the person was struck on the left eyebrow with enough force to break the eye orbit at the point of impact, crack the forehead, and shatter the bridge of the nose. A secondary blow above the left ear contributes to the temporal fracture pattern. The fractures could have resulted from a variety of mechanisms, e.g., a forceful blow from an instrument such as baseball bat or an impact with a steering wheel in a vehicular accident. An osteological evaluation report (PDF) detailing the trauma (and other aspects of the skull) with illustrative photographs is available (BCM-805-Report) and will be sent with the purchase of this product. With gratitude to the Maxwell Museum for the opportunity to cast this specimen.

Please note that specimens from the Maxwell Collection can only be sold to recognized educational institutions and professionals associated with educational institutions.
