This is the same lesson plan and calipers that are included in BH-KRO-7 Set of 7 Primate Skulls. This lesson plan can also be used in conjunction with set BH-KRO-3 (the same skulls as BH-KRO-7, but the fossil hominids are painted).

This lab activity is designed to introduce students to hominid evolution and the scientific method using research, data collection and analysis using Bone Clones Set of 7 Primate Skulls. By comparing hominids to modern humans and non-human primates, students will gain an understanding of some of the skull modifications that took place during human evolution.

Students are divided in groups and given a "mystery skull", where their objective is to study the skull, read the provided literature, and state a hypothesis about which skull they may have based on their reading. Students will collect data through measurements, record, analyze and revisit their hypothesis on accompanying work sheets.

This engaging lesson will expose students to the scientific method and highlight the importance for fact-based conclusions.
