Right Whale Pelvis and Femur
KO-096 $78.00

The right whales and close relatives routinely have a small internal femur and often a rudimentary tibia. Sometimes the pelvis and limb elements are separate and sometimes they are solidly fused together. There can be significant differences between left and right sides of the same animal. The concave dorsal margin indicates this specimen is the left pelvis and femur of a male Northern right whale, Eubalaena glacialis. It is said that the common name refers to it being the "right" whale for whalers due to its large size, slow speed, high oil content and buoyancy.

Conservation Status: Endangered
