Human Craniometric Landmark Skull
BC-345 $515.00

The Bone Clones® Craniometric Landmark Skull is a collaboration between Bone Clones, Inc. and the forensic anthropologists at the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences, Dr. Katherine Spradley, professor at the Forensic Anthropology Center at Texas State University, and Dr. Stephen Ousley, designer of the 3Skull software program.

The product of this collaboration is a detailed skull with etched cranial landmarks and a free download of the Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) PDF document created by Dr. Julie Fleischman and Dr. Christian Crowder of the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences in Houston, TX. The study of craniometrics (measurements of the skull) is a challenging aspect of anthropology and there is often confusion about the landmarks. The goal of this collaboration is to help clarify these issues so that all those studying and practicing craniometrics can collect data accurately and identically.

Etched into the skull are over 100 cranial and mandibular landmarks with their precise location and number. These numbers correspond to detailed lists in the associated SOP, which contain original landmark definitions from Langley et al.'s (2016) Data Collection Procedures 2.0 (taken from Howells (1973) and Martin and Knussmann (1988)).

The SOP is a component of the 2016 Assessing Cognitive Bias, Method Validation, and Equipment Performance for the Forensic Anthropology Laboratory project funded by the National Institute of Justice and was written by the Forensic Anthropology Division at the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences. Specifically, the SOP was created to re-access cranial landmarks and to standardize best practices in digitally collecting craniometric data by providing detailed descriptions of the cranial landmarks, how to locate them and provide guidance for difficult/troublesome landmarks.

This comprehensive reference will be an invaluable tool to all those interested in anthropometry, craniometrics, cephalometry, radiographic imaging, skull variation and morphology, paleoanthropology, measurement training, and best practices in data collection.
